It’s the perfect time to release the movie Goalie, the powerful biography of hockey great Terry Sawchuk who dedicated his life to the sport only to let his personal life fade in his glory. With America in the midst of a tough hockey season, the film shows what the sport dishes out to the players that work on ice each night for their fans. Releasing the film Waves in the midst of the year’s best films is a huge gamble for the indie film. But, if the movie does get a following it should outlast several of the block busters. The film is one of those that grows on you as you leave the theater, even to the point of some challenging discussions on the choices the lead roles make. Read more…

You really don’t have to be a sports fan or a baseball nut to enjoy the documentary Screwball, but it helps. Back in the day baseball players wanted to be like Babe Ruth who in 1927 hit 60 home runs in one season of baseball. Or how about Roger Maris who broke the Babe’s record in 1962 hitting 61 in one season. Both players will always be remembered for their feat, but not so today knowing that others have put more across the fence including Sammy Sosa who hit 66 and Mark McGwire 70 both in 1998, a spectacular feat. But there was one more to come in 2001 when Barry Bonds hit 73 and still holds the record. Read more…

A great honor in sports is to get invited to a local, state, national or even an international tournament. It’s not an easy task as for some teams you have to win all your games in the season or win a state or national tournament. In the year 2017 Israel found itself in the unbelievable position of an invitation to an international baseball tournament that’s only held every four years. Heading Home: The Tale of Team Israel is a documentary on that event and a tribute to all those who never say die. It’s a triumph for the underdog! Read more…
