Although you do not have to watch the original Ice Age film that came out in 2001, the spinoff The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild will probably be a good time to introduce your youngsters to the several sequels that started it all. This episode is filled with laughter and exciting adventure for the target audience of early youth to ten years old. I like the way they introduced the new characters and that they kept the series on a level that should not be too disturbing to the very young. Read more…

A fascinating story, the film The Personal History of David Copperfield is filled with loony characters, adventure, excitement and fantasy. The acting by a well-balanced diverse cast really shines, and the direction by Armando Iannucci who keeps his film lively, creatively modern and touching at times, becomes a big payoff. Now in theaters across the country, seeing it on the big screen makes it even better. Read more…

It’s a classic comedy that still lives on in the minds of those who saw it for the first time in 1980. The movie Airplane! is back again and this time it’s protected in a steel case for the remastered blu-ray, and with some new bonus extras. It may be a bit corny for some audiences of today, but when it came out the tongue-in-cheek masterpiece was a rave by critics and was nominated for a Golden Globe. While some fans found some of the dialog offensive, others laughed and even if it parodied themselves, Airplane!’s idea was to make something that was serious into a satire easing a grim situation by making lite of it. In this case they chose the movie Airport (1970) to lampoon using a script loaded with wit. The film also includes spoofs of the classic films Saturday Night Fever (1977) and From Here to Eternity (1953) as well. Read more…

Something for the youngsters over 4, Stardog and Turbocat, an animated film that deals with animal kindness to animals, is now available on VOD and Digital platforms. The story may be an old one, but this approach on delivering the message makes it an adventure that young people can understand. Moms and Dads should watch the film along with the very young so they can explain the significance, but all the adventure should be easily recognizable. Read more…

Before modern day in the land of mermaids, unicorns, fairies and centaurs, wizards used magic to help them in their day-to-day life. But learning magic was difficult, and as time flew by with the invention of more modern luxuries, the ways of the wizard slowly disappeared. Instead of using a spell to add light to a room it was now easier to flip a switch and have a light bulb turn on. Now in current times however, the brothers Ian and Barley Lightfoot discover that magic still exists and they can use it to make a dream come true in Onward. Read more…

Exciting, adventurous, heartwarming, compelling and most of all finding dad in all of us, Disney/PIXAR crushes it again with Onward. It’s a tribute to fathers and brothers who have to take the role of the matriarch in the household everywhere. Growing up is hard enough, but with the absence of a father figure it makes it even more difficult. The story here shows how one fatherless family finds a way to bring hope, faith and trust in oneself even during the darkest times. Read more…
