SUPERHOST a Psycho Thriller

Very different and incredibly psychotic the movie Superhost does a good job to entertain their fan base. The film features very good acting, interesting direction and a crew that’s phenomenal. Now that said, is the film perfect for at least 50% of mainstream audiences? My take is probably, especially those that need thrills and are not bothered by the gruesome scenes. Thrill seekers want to get an unexpected scare now and then to keep them glued to the screen and this film has several. Read more…

“THE TAX COLLECTOR” Hell in a Handbasket

Review by John Delia

As street gang films go, The Tax Collector is right alongside the most memorable films with a vicious story that should make you shudder. A high octane thriller, the early back story plays out with some nice drama and setup, before going into a hellish cacophony of bullets and explosions. In the middle of it all is the fine acting of Bobby Soto and Shia LaBeouf. Read more…

“BELZEBUTH” Killers from Hell

Review by John Delia

Not a bad release, the film Belzebuth containing the reference to a Satanic character similar to Beelzebub, has some good horror moments, a lot of very good visual effects and make-up, relatively nice acting, and a creative storyline. Differing from anything I have seen in the past about the dark lord of hell, the Mexican connection, with its Night of the Living Dead mystique, adds a nice touch. However, all that said, the film does have some of the most diabolical killing scenes involving young children and babies that gets sickening to watch. Be forewarned that if you are squeamish, easily nauseated by a lot of blood, or immature, than you may want to steer clear of the film. Read more…

“7500” Terror in the Sky

Review by John Delia

A very intense drama, the movie 7500 jumps off running with nonstop terrorism aboard an airliner. The film is well made as it grabs you from the start so you know what is taking place, sets up the dire situation, then puts you in the cockpit with a terrorist and the crew. It’s a tragic happening reminiscent of other real incidents that have taken place in the world. One of the better made films about a hijacking, it will have you on the edge of your seat. Pop a lot of popcorn as you will need it not to chew on your fingernails. Read more…

“ONE CUT OF THE DEAD” Blood and Zombies

Review by John Delia

Very campy and a bit over the top, the film One Cut of the Dead is out on DVD and a DVD/Blu-ray Steelbook. The film tells the story of a zombie takeover at a deserted water plant as the director is making a movie about zombies. It’s very unique and a fun watch if you can stick with it. If you like the absurd, than this comedy/horror flick may just be your cup of Saki. Read more…

“DREAMLAND” a Fantasy Crime Thriller

Review by John Delia

Wow, this indie film Dreamland came out of nowhere and it really puts the combination of crime/horror/fantasy genres in a very good place. Nicely directed, written and acted, the film takes you into the minds of some very evil protagonists and antagonists. Hard to define who is the wickedest, once the film begins it’s a diabolical whirlwind. Read more…

“THE WRETCHED” Beware the Horror

Review by John Delia

This scary little film The Wretched has a very evil monster that certainly does a good job of upping the freight gage. The story may be a bit familiar as there have been plenty a horror flick with the same idea, but the way the film starts and develops produces the entertainment needed for the fan base. Now at Drive-in Theaters, Digital and on VOD. Read more…

“THE HUNT FOR VLAD THE IMPALER” Action Adventure

Review by John Delia

Bringing you back to the 15th Century with a historical action thriller, the movie The Hunt for Vlad the Impaler is now available on VOD, Blu-ray and DVD. The film has some good acting, direction and production value, especially the costuming and special effects. The filmmakers do explain the history a bit, but I have not fact checked it for the opening dialogue on the subject. Actually most of the audiences that will watch the film will be more attuned to the warring factions and the bloody battles. The film has been dubbed in English so it may throw you off a bit, but for the most part they use adequate voice overs that are equal to each of the characters persona. Get caught up in the story early and you will enjoy it as intended. Read more…

“NATION’S FIRE” An Action Thriller

January 20th, 2020 No comments

Review by John Delia

The indie Nation’s Fire is not half bad considering what’s playing on the crowded cable systems that are getting very competitive for the VOD market. But, what pushes this film over the competition is the recklessness of the plot, the acting and a director who’s knee deep in the Genre. Working with some notables like Bruce Dern, Gil Bellows, Lou Ferrigno Jr., Kristen Renton and the up and coming Krista Grotte who steals the show, Thomas J. Churchill brings a good offering. The film plays out to an older crowd that likes high powered action and not a lot of superfluous dialogue. But, most anyone from 21 to 60 should enjoy all the chaos and revenge. The production crew gets the job done in spite of the noticeable low budget. Read more…

“Hostile” Looking to Survive

Review by John Delia

Have you ever watched a movie and the acting was just okay, but the story and production were so compelling you lasted through it? Well, I have another one for you. It’s called Hostile and it has just been released on DVD. I do like the actors however, as they are fresh faces in a world of repeat performers who have dominated the screen. With better direction and a better remix of the plot, this film could have been a real standout. In the meantime if you like films that have cannibals and the look of a Mad Max thriller, combined with a romance that has a decent plot, then check this one out. Read more…
