When you think of a horror film you expect a lot of mayhem, monsters and ghastly scenes, and in the movie Uncle Peckerhead you get all three. The film targets not only the fear fan, but this one works on another level, hard rock music. All in fun, the movie starts out with a slide BASED ON A TRUE STORY and then proceeds to bring out the ghoul and bloody mess that ensues. As street gang films go, The Tax Collector is right alongside the most memorable films with a vicious story that should make you shudder. A high octane thriller, the early back story plays out with some nice drama and setup, before going into a hellish cacophony of bullets and explosions. It may be a story plot that gets a bit familiar, but The Shadow of Violence has a different feel to it. A guy has had a tough life as a child and ends up in the home of a drug lord who wants revenge for a wrong doing. The main character finds that he can’t come to grips with carrying out a hit and everything goes south for him. However, this one has some excellent acting, directing and even the cinematography plays a nice part in the film. Read more…

Taking you into the slums of a small town in Mexico, the movie Tigers are Not Afraid brings you up-close to a group of destitute children orphaned by a narcotics and human trafficking gang. Told from one young girl’s viewpoint, it’s a very heartbreaking and disturbing film that’s well made with very good direction, acting and visually powerful cinematography. Read more…

Very, very VERY scary, the film M.O.M. Mothers of Monsters comes to VOD after a short theatrical run. The drama involves what America has extreme concerns about, the child that doesn’t fit in with others and has violent tendencies. Although the film is fictional, it does somewhat emulate those responsible for some of the most diabolical school shootings in America. Bringing you back to the 15th Century with a historical action thriller, the movie The Hunt for Vlad the Impaler is now available on VOD, Blu-ray and DVD. The film has some good acting, direction and production value, especially the costuming and special effects. The filmmakers do explain the history a bit, but I have not fact checked it for the opening dialogue on the subject. Actually most of the audiences that will watch the film will be more attuned to the warring factions and the bloody battles. The film has been dubbed in English so it may throw you off a bit, but for the most part they use adequate voice overs that are equal to each of the characters persona. Get caught up in the story early and you will enjoy it as intended. Read more…

The historical drama Quezon’s Game is so compelling that it’s hard to believe that it actually happened with little knowledge of the events until this film. We do know that there was a holocaust, that the Jews were persecuted, their property confiscated by the Nazi Regime, concentration camps were set up, millions were murdered and much more of the noted facts in movies and books. However, this story brings to light more than just the fact that the USA and Canada turned away people that were legitimately seeking asylum, but that our leadership and their ambassadors at the time added to the prejudice and denouncement of certain groups. It’s been a while since seeing a movie like The Wave. “Have you ever awakened from a dream so real that for a moment you can’t remember where you are? This movie is a lot like thatâ€. With a very good cast including Justin Long, Donald Faison and Sheila Vand, the movie will have you totally entrenched in one man’s wrong choices that put him on a night from which he’ll likely never recover. It’s a fun sci-fi drama and one of the better thriller’s you’ll see this year. Take a wild ride on Frank’s one night of pleasure and you’ll wake up in the morning totally “refreshed†knowing it wasn’t you. Read more…

Opening this Holiday season is a WWI film 1917 and it’s one of the best movies of 2019. It may even have a shot from some of the big award givers come January and February. The Golden Globes has nominated the film in three categories including Best Motion Picture Drama, but we won’t get those results until January 5. It’s been awhile since a war film was chosen for the top Academy Award and you would have to go back to 2009 when The Hurt Locker took it. That top Oscar involved the most recent war in Iraq. But as far as a war film with fighting scenes throughout like 1917, it would be Saving Private Ryan in 1999 that got the nod for Best Picture. Read more…

Gripping, engaging, wicked and possessed the move The Lighthouse is one of the odds on favorites for an Oscar. The acting, directing and cinematography captivate the viewer with a story that so punishing you’ll leave the theater in a sweat. It’s one of those dramas that don’t come around too often and when they do they’re a must see. Bring your slicker and an umbrella as this film will blow you away. Read more…
