What puts Nightmare Alley over the top is the excellent blend of acting, directing and cinematography. The storyline is morbid and sometimes terrifying as it weaves startling twists throughout the two and a half hours. That said, the element of predictability does creep in, but even though it still remains high as one of the best films for 2021.

A surprise filled film, the movie South of Heaven has been released on Blu-ray and DVD for home viewing. The film gets exciting as it moves along with a lot of twist while establishing the characters developed by Director and co-screenwriter Aharon KIeshales. Exciting and edge of your seat compelling, the movie The Guilty starring Jake Gyllenhaal is available Netflix. A “one man showâ€, the film takes the audience on an explosive heart pounding ride that keeps on going at a fast pace. Helmed by “Training Day†director Antoine Fuqua, he puts as much energy and tension here as he did for that film. Read more…

Being released on Blu-ray and DVD, the gutsy TV Series Gangs of London pulls together a fine cast and direction crew. Action packed and very dramatic it’s a reminder of films like Gangs of New York and The Godfather. But, make no mistake, this hard hitting crime thriller is definitely worth a watch all on its own. There have been many films involving breaking into banks and dealing with a difficult vault in a creative way. It takes a good writer to change up the plot enough to make the audience think it’s their first time watching the crooks pull off the impossible. In The Vault, the film does just that. While the background story is a bit overused, and gets a might predictable, it’s the meat of the premise that really puts the viewer on the edge of their seat. Read more…

A very good film for thrill seekers, Dreamland takes you into a world of the 1930’s where times are tough with crumbling farm lands and a country starving during the “Great Depressionâ€. Margot Robbie leads a fine cast and she melts into a role that’s entrancing, deceitful and incisive. It’s an excellent character for her and she shines with her co-stars Finn Cole and Darby Camp.

A compelling mystery The Silencing involves a serial killer and a father who has a missing teen. The movie takes you into the mind of the father as he tries to run down the killer with more teens go missing in the surrounding area. If you like films that challenge your mind to solve a crime, this one is very good. If you are an ardent fan of Cable channel ID Investigation Discovery however, you may have a problem with déjà vu. The crime thriller Pay Dirt puts you in the middle of a dispute between a major crime lord and an ex-con wanting to get retribution after serving a jail term. The storyline, while taking place in a different setting and time, will seem a lot like you’ve seen it before. This production, although low budget, does have some interesting characters and a bit of good comical relief, but in the end fails to entertain more than that. Read more…

As street gang films go, The Tax Collector is right alongside the most memorable films with a vicious story that should make you shudder. A high octane thriller, the early back story plays out with some nice drama and setup, before going into a hellish cacophony of bullets and explosions. In the middle of it all is the fine acting of Bobby Soto and Shia LaBeouf. Read more…

It may be a story plot that gets a bit familiar, but The Shadow of Violence has a different feel to it. A guy has had a tough life as a child and ends up in the home of a drug lord who wants revenge for a wrong doing. The main character finds that he can’t come to grips with carrying out a hit and everything goes south for him. However, this one has some excellent acting, directing and even the cinematography plays a nice part in the film. Read more…
