CHIP ‘N DALE Return on Disney+

Review by John Delia

The wacky fun world of Chip ‘N Dale: Rescue Rangers gets a reboot after thirty years. The magnetic chipmunks that kept generations of youngsters glued to their TV screens, are back with a new platform, Disney+”, bringing them to homes all over the planet. Starting in 1988 as a TV special on the Disney Channel, it took off as a weekly series in 1989. In 1990 they closed down the show and put it in syndication.

Now, with a spanking new makeover of Computer Graphic/Live Action comes a tad modernized version for tykes to teens. In this story we get sent back to how Chip (voice John Mulaney) and Dale (voice Andy Samberg) met with a nice introduction for the pre-teen age group and others who have never seen the program. It then jumps ahead showing the two pals living together in modern day.

The two best buddies are sort of retired from show business and find themselves bored while living among the acting world in Los Angeles. Haven’t heard from the other rangers in a while, the two get a surprise when Monterey “Monty” Jack (voice Eric Bana) shows up. When their huge friend goes missing however, the chipmunk detectives jump into action with the help of new police recruit Elle (Kiki Layne). Along the way they meet other cartoon and acting greats who have occupied their previous shows, some good and others baddies, making the story interesting and fun to watch.

Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers ends with the hint of another episode to follow down the road. The TV film has been rated PG for mild action and rude/suggestive humor. Some youngsters may get a bit frightened during a few scenes and the cartoon action gets rough at times, so watching it one time with immature children may be a good idea.
