THE PRODUCERS GUILD OF AMERICA HONORS BOB AND HARVEY WEINSTEIN WITH THE 2013 MILESTONE AWARD

LOS ANGELES, CA (July 23, 2012) – The Producers Guild of America (PGA) announced today that legendary filmmakers Bob and Harvey Weinstein, co-founders and Co-Chairmen of The Weinstein Company, will be honored with the 2013 Milestone Award. The award will be presented to the Weinsteins at the 24th Annual Producers Guild Awards ceremony on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

The Milestone Award is the Guild’s highest honor recognizing an individual or team who has made historic contributions to the entertainment industry. In the past, the Producers Guild has paid tribute to such industry leaders as Clint Eastwood, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Steven Spielberg, Walt Disney, James Cameron, Ron Meyer and last year’s 2012 recipient Leslie Moonves, among others.

“Beginning in the late 1970s with Miramax Films and continuing through today with The Weinstein Company, Bob and Harvey consistently seek out, nurture and help bring audiences the stories that others are often afraid to tell,” said Producers Guild National Board member and Awards Chair Michael De Luca (MONEYBALL, THE SOCIAL NETWORK). “Their passionate regard for the spectacular diversity and resolve of the human spirit has brought us such iconic and award-winning films as THE CRYING GAME, SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE, PULP FICTION, THE ENGLISH PATIENT, GOOD WILL HUNTING, THE KING’S SPEECH and most recently, THE ARTIST and the courageous documentary, BULLY. Bob and Harvey’s brave dedication to emerging producers and other storytellers has virtually redefined the term ‘independent film,’ making it possible for some of our culture’s most vital stories to break out from the shadows of smaller arthouse theaters into the bright light of large multiplexes around the globe. We salute them for their contributions to our industry, and we are so proud to recognize them with the Guild’s highest honor.”

“We couldn’t be more thankful to our fellow producers and the many predecessors who’ve inspired us and guided the independent film world to its present state,” said Bob and Harvey Weinstein. “It is easy to be dedicated to something you love. Without our peers who’ve joined us in taking chances on the first time director or the unknown talent, and without the curious audiences who take chances on the movie with subtitles or better yet, no sound or color, we wouldn’t be where we are today. We’re deeply honored and humbled for this recognition from the Producers Guild of America for our life’s work.”

“Bully” gets PG-13 Rating From MPAA

PG-13 RATING

GRANTED FOR  BULLY

BY MPAA WITHOUT

CUTTING CRUCIAL SCENE

NEXT STEP: FIGHT TO PASS SAFE SCHOOLS IMPROVEMENT ACT

April 5, 2012 – New York, NY – The Weinstein Company (TWC), aided by the guidance and consultation from attorneys David Boies and Ted Olson, announced today that the MPAA has lowered the R rating, given for some language, for BULLY to a PG-13 in time for the film’s April 13th expansion to 55 markets. The scene that has been at the forefront of the battle with the MPAA, the intense scene in the film that shows teen Alex Libby being bullied and harassed on a bus, has been left fully intact and unedited. BULLY director Lee Hirsch felt editing the scene was not an option, and subsequently refused to do so, since it is too important to the truth and integrity behind the film. Also a victory is the exception the MPAA made by allowing the film to be released with the new rating before 90 days, which is the length of time their policy states a film must wait to be in theaters after a rating change to avoid confusion or inconvenience for moviegoers. #BullyMovie Campaign to Date Sparks 100 Times the Usual Conversation

NEW YORK, NY – March 7, 2012 – On Monday, The Weinstein Company (TWC) ran a highly successful campaign on Twitter to drive awareness around the issue of bullying in the United States. The #BullyMovie effort, inspired by the film BULLY, which will be in theaters on March 30, resulted in a significant spike in conversation around the issue of bullying and a massive 100x increase in conversation about the film on Twitter.

“We believe this movie has real power to raise awareness and increase empathy for this important issue. That belief has been confirmed for us in the last few days,” said TWC President of Marketing Stephen Bruno. “Not only did the Twitter campaign inspire a jaw-dropping number of conversations, it drove people to act, which has been our goal from the beginning with this film campaign.”

The Promoted Tweets from @BullyMovie, the film’s Twitter account, were seen by millions of users around the country, who were highly engaged with the topic:

* The #BullyMovie campaign had an average engagement rate of more than 36%, meaning that one out of every three people that saw one of the Promoted Tweets took action in some way – by retweeting, replying to or favoriting the message, or clicking through to watch the trailer or sign a petition to change the film’s rating. This far surpassed the average 3-5% engagement rate for Promoted Tweets.
* Twitter users retweeted messages from the #BullyMovie campaign thousands of times, and mentioned the film in more than 7,800 Tweets.
* The best performing Tweet –“Watch the @bullymovie trailer and join the fight to STOP BULLYING in schools: chn.ge/Afgpmt VIDEO: bit.ly/znJ8C0” – attracted over 17K clicks and 1,190 retweets and an engagement rate of 37.5%.
* Views of the BULLY trailer jumped by nearly 10x to 213,000 views.

“The #BullyMovie campaign drove a dramatic increase in conversation and compelled thousands of people to take action. We’re pleased to see the way The Weinstein Company is creatively using Twitter to drive awareness and encourage discussion around this important issue,” said Twitter president of global revenue Adam Bain.

As the success of the #BullyMovie Twitter campaign exemplifies, the support for this cause is growing every day in a very grass roots way. A Change.org petition, started last week by Michigan high school student Katy Butler, urges the MPAA to change the rating on BULLY from R to its deserved PG-13 rating. Just yesterday, the petition received an exponentially large amount of signatures. Butler will deliver the petition the MPAA today.

ABOUT “BULLY”
Directed by Sundance and Emmy-award winning filmmaker, Lee Hirsch, BULLY is a beautifully cinematic, character-driven documentary. At its heart are those with huge stakes in this issue whose stories each represent a different facet of America’s bullying crisis. BULLY follows five kids and families over the course of a school year. Stories include two families who have lost children to suicide and a mother awaiting the fate of her 14-year-old daughter who has been incarcerated after bringing a gun on her school bus. With an intimate glimpse into homes, classrooms, cafeterias and principals’ offices, the film offers insight into the often cruel world of the lives of bullied children. As teachers, administrators, kids and parents struggle to find answers, BULLY examines the dire consequences of bullying through the testimony of strong and courageous youth. Through the power of their stories, the film aims to be a catalyst for change in the way we deal with bullying as parents, teachers, children and society as a whole.

New York, NY, July 8, 2011 – The Weinstein Company (TWC) announced today that it has acquired from Gaumont all rights to UNTOUCHABLE, the French language film produced by Quad Films. The deal covers all rights in North America, the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, Scandinavia, South Africa, China and distribution rights for pan-Asian satellite TV.  TWC also has remake rights, to co-finance and co-produce an English language remake with Gaumont and the film’s original producers Quad Films.  The announcement was made by TWC’s Executive Vice President of Acquisitions and Co-Productions Peter Lawson.

UNTOUCHABLE is directed by Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache, produced by Nicolas Duval Adassovsky, Yann Zenou and Laurent Zeitoun, and written by Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache.  It stars acclaimed actor François Cluzet (IN THE BEGINNING, TELL NO ONE) and Omar Sy (THOSE HAPPY DAYS).  A 2012 US theatrical release is expected.

Based on a true story, UNTOUCHABLE follows the unlikely friendship between wealthy paraplegic Philippe (Cluzet) and Driss (Sy), a guy from the street.  When Philippe appoints Driss as his right-hand aide, he counts on Driss’ pitiless, strong-arm approach to keep their relationship functional and straightforward.  What neither expects is the friendship that develops between the two men.  Inspiring, heartbreaking and outright hilarious at points, UNTOUCHABLE follows their journey of self discovery, as both men uncover aspects of themselves that they never would have believed existed.

Said Toledano and Nakache “We are extremely proud to entrust our film with Harvey Weinstein and his dream team and look forward to presenting our untouchable and unexpected buddy duet to the world.”

Said Cecile Gaget, Gaumont Head of International Sales, “We are very thrilled to have UNTOUCHABLE released by The Weinstein Company, who will be able to do a great campaign and bring this amazing emotional movie to a wide audience.”
Said Lawson, “UNTOUCHABLE is a breathtakingly moving piece of filmmaking with performances that speak straight to the heart.  Acquiring this film was an opportunity we did not want to miss — and we spent the holiday weekend making sure that we didn’t!”

Said Harvey Weinstein, TWC Co-Chairman, “Occasionally, you find a story that translates universally, and UNTOUCHABLE is a perfect example.  We look forward to bringing this beautiful and entertaining film to a worldwide audience.”

The deal was negotiated for TWC by COO David Glasser and Lawson; and for Gaumont by Gaget.
