Disney’s “Muppet Babies” Time to Play! now on DVD

Review by John Delia

Here’s a very good DVD for the very young called Disney’s “Muppet Babies: Time to Play!”. It is filled with episodes that provide stories about problem solving, working with others, having good manners, making friends, and so much more. If you need a little extra time to relax, you may want to watch it with your youngsters to refresh your memory on what it was to be a child yourself. And just press Play All and the episodes play non-stop.

“Sir Kermit the Brave”/”Animal Fly Airplane” Miss Nanny is looking for her green sweater so she goes into the art closet where she thought she left it. While she’s in there the gang hears some strange noises coming from the closet and Fozzie thinks it’s a dragon. Miss Piggy wants to rescue Miss Nanny, but she needs the help of Kermit, Gonzo and the rest of the gang. “In Animal Fly Airplane” Miss Nanny talks to the Muppet kids about Paris as a beautiful place. It sounds so nice that Animal wants to fly the gang there, but Kermit thinks he’s not ready to fly an airplane. But it’s not long until he takes over.

Animal shows the gang he can fly Disney’s Muppet Babies Time to Play!

“Hatastrophe/Fly South” Fozzie spots a flying hat and he and the gang play with it in the back yard. When Fozzie loans the hat to Kermit it gets lost and the gang must try to retrieve it in the yard next door. In “Fly South” Gonzo sees geese flying and Miss Nanny tells the Muppet babies that they are going South for the winter. But Gonzo is concerned that his best friends the chickens will leave him to migrate South.

“The Great Muppet Sport-a-Thon/You Say Potato, I Say Best Friend” Miss Nanny teaches the gang about the Sport-A-Thon and how the participants from around the world compete for gold medals. When she turns on the scribble screen so the gang can watch the sports live it won’t work. When she can’t get someone to fix it Miss Piggy organizes a sport-a-thon of their own. In “You Say Potato, I Say Best Friend” The kids are helping in the vegetable garden and Gonzo pulls up a potato and makes it his BFF. When Kermit suggest they play rocket-tag Gonzo wants the Potato to play too.

Summer, Miss Piggy and Gonzo aboard the plane to Paris Disney’s Muppet Babies Time to Play!

“Super Fabulous vs. Captain Icecube/Piggy’s Time Machine” Miss Piggy shuns Summer because she want to be a super hero like her. It hurts Summer’s feelings so the gang must try to cheer her up. The Muppet babies gets together to work out a way that Miss Piggy will play with summer. The boys set up a fake kidnapping and it brings the two together. In” Piggy’s Time Machine” Miss Piggy can’t wait until tomorrow for her birthday and tries to get the gang to sing to her. Miss Nanny tells her she is very impatient and will have wait. So when Gonzo mentions a time machine to speed up the day, the gang follows him to the scribble screen where he draws plans for one. When they try out Gonzo’s test model things go wrong.

Muppet Babies “Time to Play!” has been rated TV-Y and is safe for all youngsters. If you are not certain, please watch with immature children so they will enjoy the whole presentation. I found that the first episode “Sir Kermit the Brave” is a bit scary for the youngest of children so if you may want to skip that one, but all the others should be a lot of fun. There are NO commercial ads to excite the little tykes, just adventure.
